Long Island Race Had Big Implications; Putin Compliments Biden !!
Author: Greg Valliere

THE BUZZ in Washington yesterday focused on Tuesday’s Long Island special House race. Democrat Tom Suozzi was the slight favorite but won comfortably — and may have provided a winning template for Democrats in races this fall.
IMMIGRATION IS A BIG ISSUE, even in Long Island, where Suozzi took the bold move of making it his dominant theme — and he blasted away at House Republicans who demanded a tough border bill but then walked away when they got one from Senate Democrats. Polls show the public is indifferent to the political maneuvering; voters just want a deal, period.
MOST VOTERS DON’T CARE about the impeachment of Alejandro Mayorkas, the homeland security secretary; there’s absolutely no chance that the Senate would convict him and a brief trial would be viewed as a waste of time.
WHAT A TWIST: Democrats are going to make immigration a signature issue, perhaps a risky gambit, but it worked in Long Island. This issue — and a public view that Republicans are too strident on abortion — could flip the House back to the Democrats, and GOP leaders were clearly nervous yesterday.

IS RUSSIA WORKING ON A HIGH-TECH weapon that could cripple U.S. satellites and space weapons? That was a big story yesterday based on a leak from Rep. Michael Turner, Republican of Ohio and the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Most intelligence experts said it would be years before Russia could deploy its weapons, and by evening this story had faded.
MEANWHILE, VLADIMIR PUTIN is showing no love for Donald Trump — telling a Russian TV network that Joe Biden would be better for Russia as president than Donald Trump. Biden, Putin said, “is a more experienced, predictable politician of the old school. But we will work with any leader of the United States, who is trusted by the American people,” Putin said.
TRUMP HAS BOASTED THAT HE AND PUTIN are close, but intelligence experts say that’s an exaggeration. Putin’s comments that Biden would be better for Russia surely will annoy Trump, as will Putin’s assertion that Biden doesn’t seem to have any cognitive issues. Trump stated earlier this week that “I just want to be loved,” but Putin may have reservations.
