Did Trump Win Four Years Ago?

IT’S BECOMING INCREASINGLY CLEAR that Donald Trump is prepared to declare victory next month – even if he doesn’t win.
A REPEAT OF THE 2020 THEMES is crucial to the Trump strategy to hang on to power. Two of his closest aides – JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson – have refused to concede that Trump lost, despite overwhelming evidence that he did.
IN OUR OPINION, Trump only needs to come within a point or two in states like Pennsylvania or Michigan – that would be enough for him to land in recount territory. Once recounts begin, the internet will be ablaze with charges that Trump won those contested states.
THEN THE COURTS – TRUMP’S STRONG SUIT – WILL BECOME DOMINANT: Trump appointed 54 federal appellate judges in four years, one short of the 55 Barack Obama appointed in twice as much time.
TRUMP ALSO HAD A MAJOR INFLUENCE on the nation’s highest court. The three Supreme Court justices he appointed – Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett – are the most by any president since Ronald Reagan (who appointed four) and the most by any one-term president since Herbert Hoover.
THE SUPREME COURT has a 6-3 conservative majority.
WE’VE BEEN ASSERTING FOR MONTHS that the winner of this election may not be clear for weeks or months after the November 5 election. A winner must be declared by January 20, but that will be plenty of time for Trump to appeal. Trump will declare victory, in our opinion, whether he wins or not.
