Why The Budget Has Stalled
Author: Greg Valliere

There are plenty of reasons why a budget deal has stalled for nearly a month — disputes over spending, bitter political differences, etc.
But the biggest issue, by far, is health care.
Neither party can resolve their dispute over Obamacare. The Democrats see a huge issue — without aid from Washington, the under-funded Obamacare program could impose enormous spending hikes on millions of Americans next year.
The Republicans, meanwhile, are adamantly opposed to more spending without reforms. But they have a problem: Despite their issues with Obamacare, the GOP cannot come up with an alternative.
The key factor, in our opinion, is that the Republicans, who loathe Obamacare, cannot agree on the derails of any reform.
Naturally, this has become a bitter political issue — just as a Socialist is on the verge of becoming mayor of New York City. What a great issue for the Republicans, who claim that a spending spree is coming,
paid for with higher taxes.
The Democrats have countered that a huge rise of premiums in 2026 will freeze potential recipients and drive many into poverty.
What’s the answer? Donald Trump needs to get involved. If he doesn’t Republicans will continue to defect; they already are bickering because they essentially have no plan.
