Cuba in the Crosshairs

Author: Greg Valliere

January 6, 2026

The head-spinning U.S. invasion of Venezuela may be just the beginning.

We were stunned yesterday by the audacity by top Trump officials, who are making no effort to conceal their designs on Cuba and Iran, the most prominent villains in Trump World.

Cuba faces an economic catastrophe, as its traditional allies are certain to cut back aid and Cuban-American Marco Rubio plans a presidential bid.

“We set the terms and conditions,” tough guy Stephen Steven Miller said at the White House yesterday.

President Trump is on a geopolitical sugar high, and there’s little doubt that Iran is a huge target. Will the audacious Trump team target Tehran?

That may be too aspirational but there’s little doubt that Colombia and Cuba should worry. And, most worrisome, Miller and others are calling — publicly — for regime change in Greenland.

At some point a consensus may form that Trump has overplayed his hand with the oil industry, which doesn’t like getting bossed around. He wants oil companies in Venezuela to spend billions on renovating the industry, which is not enthusiastic.
