The Biden Family Scandal
Author: Greg Valliere
June 23, 2023
WE’RE RELUCTANT TO WADE INTO THIS SCANDAL, but it cannot be ignored. It has moved from a right wing crusade to a serious issue that could affect the 2024 election, so the markets will have to pay attention to this Biden scandal, just as Donald Trump’s scandals could affect his campaign.
HUNTER BIDEN APPARENTLY WILL PLEAD GUILTY next month to misdemeanor charges, but that hardly will end this story. Is there a smoking gun? Two IRS whistleblowers say yes; they alleged yesterday that the Justice Department consistently thwarted their investigation.
HOUSE RADICALS WANT TO IMPEACH BIDEN for numerous transgressions, but there’s no chance that the Senate would convict him. The real threat to President Biden is to his re-election prospects.
THE CONSERVATIVE WALL STREET JOURNAL editorial page has made the Hunter Biden case a cause celebre, but the liberal Washington Post also has chimed in, writing this morning that IRS whistleblowers have charged the Justice Department with blocking the investigation. Attorney General Merrick Garland has insisted that investigators have had free reign.
ENTER KIMBERLEY STRASSEL with a scathing account in the WSJ of the Hunter Biden plea deal. Her column is worth reading. She tells a story of blocked search warrants, tip-offs to Biden’s team, squelched avenues of investigation, downgraded charges, and interference by Joe Biden’s cronies.
STRASSEL EXTENSIVELY QUOTES the two FBI whistleblowers, who said they were consistently thwarted by Justice Department officials; these agents believe Hunter Biden is vulnerable to a felony tax fraud indictment. He apparently faces mere misdemeanor charges.
EVEN IF HUNTER BIDEN escapes a felony charge, this story will not end. More hearings are likely in the House, with the whistleblowers as star witnesses. Could the ultra-right in the House over-play their hand? They often do, but they smell blood: was Joe Biden involved, even with just a phone call or two?
HOUSE MILITANTS ARE DETERMINED TO PURSUE IMPEACHMENT, and they are prepared to shut down the government on Oct. 1, unless there are deep spending cuts that would far exceed those that were part of the debt ceiling deal earlier this month. Speaker Kevin McCarthy can’t control these militants.
THE BOTTOM LINES: The Hunter Biden case will persist for many months as the media finally digs into the Biden deals — and whether Joe Biden played any role. Is he vulnerable in the 2024 election because of this scandal? The answer is yes; the FBI whistleblowers will not go away.
