Washington on Edge

Author: Greg Valliere

September 15, 2025

RARELY in the many years we have followed Washington has there been such resignation to political violence.

EXCUSE US for not buying the optimism that both parties will get along. Consider: several million new followers of Charlie Kirk have signed up to his cause while hundreds of Americans have been fired for celebrating Kirk’s murder.

NEITHER PARTY SEEMS READY TO NEGOTIATE — as bomb threats to schools and businesses continue to rise.  As for Donald Trump, he has bluntly stated that his role “is not a unifier.”

THE FINANCIAL MARKETS have rallied on the likelihood of rate cuts in the second half.  But serious issues loom — a budget crisis in three weeks, renewed disputes over tariffs, and two ugly wars that seem likely to persist.

AS THE KIRK FUNERAL LOOMS, Trump has pledged to “hit hard” against the left. Our sources on Capitol Hill think he will show no mercy; he treated Kirk like a son and is prepared to steer the GOP and the courts farther to the right.

TRUMP is described as furious and crushed, prepared to hit hard. The antipathy in Washington toward Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu is likely to rise.
