Trump Vs. Trudeau Again; Nominees on Thin Ice

HERE THEY GO AGAIN: The war of words between Donald Trump and Justin Trudeau is on again, following a classic nasty insult from Trump via email late last night.
TRUMP MOCKED TRUDEAU, referring to Canada as a “Great State” and addressing Trudeau as “Governor.”
“IT WAS A PLEASURE” to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” Trump posted to Truth Social at 12:06 a.m. Tuesday, a time when he often throws his most memorable insults.
“I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!,” Trump ranted.
THE TWO LEADERS HAD A CORDIAL three-hour dinner earlier this month in Florida, but since then Trudeau declared that a new 25% tariff could cripple the economies of Canada and the U.S. That assessment apparently did not please Trump.
THE UNPREDICTABLE PRESIDENT likes to threaten tariffs, using them as a political club, not necessarily as part of an economic strategy. Trump’s implied threat to annex Canada is obviously ridiculous — but the friction between the two may persist and cast a cloud for the foreseeable future.

TRUMP HAS HIS OWN PROBLEMS AT HOME: Two of his high-visibility Cabinet nominees are on thin ice, as Senate confirmation hearings begin with shockingly little vetting of the candidates from the Trump team.
ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR. faces a grueling hearing that will focus on his embrace of conspiracy theories and his opposition to many vaccines. Dozens of Nobel Prize winners have urged the Senate to carefully scrutinize his extremely controversial positions.
AND TULSI GABBARD has stumbled repeatedly in hearings this week. Her nomination to become director of national intelligence is now so rocky — especially her ties to the Assad family and the Russians — that on Capitol Hill the betting is that her nomination will fail.
